Students at the Academic Achievement Center at Lakeshore High School organized a food drive among the student body which generated over 1,600 pounds of non-perishable food items according to teacher Mindy Weaver who said all the food is distributed locally.
The food was loaded into a Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency truck for their food bank at the Vincent Place in Benton Harbor. Mario Fonseca, food program assistant for SWCAA said they serve an average of ten families a day with food assistance.
